Helen June (Mcclure) Newby

July 19, 1923 — March 13, 2011

IN MEMORY OF
Helen June Newby, the former June McClure was born July 19, 1923 in  Trimble County, Wise’s Landing,  KY. She died March 13, 2011 at Clark Memorial Hospital.
June was the seventh child of William and Effie Perkinson McClure. One of five girls, her sisters were Thelma McClure, Lorene Fowler, Louise Allen and Marie Newby.  Her five brothers were Pearl McClure, Elmo McClure, Guy McClure, Bill McClure and Ray McClure. All of June’s siblings preceded her in death.
Growing up in Wise’s Landing in Kentucky was a wonderful time of June’s life. Her family moved from there to Southern Indiana where June attended Charlestown High School. It was in Indiana where she would meet the love of her life, Kenneth Newby. They married on March 21, 1945 in Rockville, Maryland while Kenneth was on leave from the Army and June was serving in the Navy in Washington, D.C. Although they didn’t have any children of their own they had 17 nieces and 19 nephews to love and enjoy. After the war June and Kenneth “Pete” farmed. June also worked outside the home as a guard for I.C.I. Americas, E.I. Dupont and Olin Corporation. Her other employers were the U.S. Census Bureau and Kroger Baking Company. She retired from I.C.I. safety and security department.
June loved the Lord, her family and church family, and her friends. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting “seven course dinners”. She was an animal lover and many who knew her will remember her dog Toby.
June and Kenneth were faithful member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Marysville. June served in many areas of the church, teaching, leading the youth, acting as Lay Delegate to Annual Conference, preaching as a Lay Speaker, serving as a board member, and being active in the United Methodist Women. June had a passion for World Missions.
Expressions of Sympathy may take the form of donations to United Methodist Committee on Relief, PO Box 9068 New York, NY 10087 or your favorite Church Mission.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Marysville, IN. with burial in Eastern Cemetery in Jeffersonville, IN. Visitation begins at 10 A.M. Saturday at the church until time of service.
