Helen Jean Coffey

Helen Jean (Vest) Coffey, 90, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2026. She was born on October 14, 1936, in Hibernia, Indiana, to the late Robert Vest and Gertrude (Cochran) Fuqua, and lived a life marked by deep faith, enduring love for her family, and quiet strength through life’s sorrows.

Helen experienced profound heartbreak in her life, including the tragic loss of her children, yet she never lost her faith. That faith remained the place where she found her strength and carried her through every season of life. Those who knew her understood how central her family was to her heart. She held her loved ones close and treasured the bonds of family above all else.

Alongside the seriousness of her devotion and resilience, Helen also enjoyed simple pleasures that brought comfort to her days, including visits and phone calls with friends and family. She always enjoyed watching game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, and Jeopardy. These favorite programs were part of the rhythm of her life and will be remembered by those who shared those moments with her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Everett Lee Coffey; children, Ronald Vest, Ramona Coffey, Teresa Maxine Barnes, and Marcye Matthews; siblings, Judy, Doris, Charles, Zola, Nola, Brenda, Robert; and her step-daughter-in-law, Janet Coffey.

Helen is survived by her loving step-children, Wayne Coffey, Gerald (Cindy) Coffey, and Mark (Mitzi) Coffey; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Rosa, Linda, and Roseanna.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2026 at Grayson Funeral Home (893 High Street, Charlestown, Indiana). Her Funeral Service will be at 12:00 pm on Thursday, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Scottsburg Cemetery.
