Guðrún was the most loving “Momma” to her children and dearest “Meme” to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. A stranger to no one, Meme would tell folks she came from the “hugginest” family and was always ready with hugs and kisses. Guðrún was the kind of person who loved you instantly and would love you forever. Her kindness was contagious and set a loving example to all her family and friends. The first sight you saw when visiting her was her smiling face and open arms and she always made you feel at home no matter where you were or where you were from.
Guðrún is also remembered by her family and friends for all of the games of canasta, bunko, and rook. For her beautiful needlework. For her delicious cooking of favorite meals like hash, meatballs with curry sauce, and a traditional Icelandic Christmas meal of lamb and potatoes with white sauce, as well as, her baked goods like Icelandic pancakes and no-bake cookies. She has been a fixture of the Charlestown community for over 70 years, serving as a receptionist for Dr. Shina and a member of the First Baptist Church.
