Garry Thornwell “Pippie” Hedges, 69 of Charlestown, IN passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Clark Memorial Hospital; holding the hand of his dear friend, Joni Rich. Pippie was born on January 12, 1951 to the late Charles Dewey and Mary Ruth Hedges. He was the last known living member of his family and cherished his friends and their relationships. Pippie was a man that had little but gave all he had to those he loved. Pippie was a long time member of the American Legion Sons Squadron 335 in Charlestown where he quickly became family. Pippie had a contagious laugh and youthful soul, often playing pranks and cracking jokes. He enjoyed listening to vinyl records and watching classic television shows. He was well known for riding his moped around town, wearing his Scooby-Doo Hat, big sunglasses and a tie , because of his slight obsession with them. A quote he was known for saying often was, “You may not like me now, but you’ll miss me when I’m gone.” And yes Pippie we will miss you!
Pippie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael C. Hedges and a half-brother, Charles D. Hedges Jr. What he lacked in living relatives he gained in friends. Thhose friends will greatly miss him and ensure he is never forgotten.
