Frieda Boyer Morgan

July 28, 1931 — June 11, 2017

Frieda Boyer Morgan, 85, was born July 28, 1931 in Madison, Indiana to Clyde Consley Boyer and Dorcas Willyard Boyer. She grew up on her parents farm along with her late sister, Celia Bernice Boyer and her younger sister, Laura Mercedes Boyer. Upon completion of her sophomore year in high school, she transferred to Ward Belmont in Nashville, Tennessee, where she earned her high school diploma. (WardBelmont is now part of Belmont College. They are known for their music programs). After graduation, she was accepted and enrolled at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Once she decided to major in music and organ, she continued her education at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where she earned her bachelors and master’s degrees. Upon graduation, she joined the faculty at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. She then enrolled at George Washington University in our nation's capital, earning her primary and secondary teaching credentials. With her credentials in hand she moved to Elko, Nevada, a small town in Northern Nevada surrounded by enormous ranches. She taught music to kindergartners through the 12th grade. October 7, 1956 she was introduced to her future husband, Frederick Avery Morgan, (who predeceased her) by the Episcopal minister at the church they both attended. They married July 20, 1957 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Because her husband was employed by the federal government, a promotion meant moving. During their marriage they lived in seven cities. Despite the many moves, a year did not go by without several weeks each summer with her parents on the farm. (Her three children enjoyed an idyllic childhood that included adventures, such as exploring caves and getting lost in the woods with their Auntie.) Not only did Mrs. Morgan teach music, she continued her organs studies with Richard Purvis in San Francisco and with another renowned organist in Portland, Oregon. Throughout her musical career, she was an organist at many churches as well as directing the choir. She was also a member of the Green Tree Tavern Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Later in the 1980s, she helped start a new chapter of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In Walnut Creek, California she earned her real estate license and began selling homes in the SanFrancisco Bay area. It was something she did well and enjoyed. She was well liked and respected by both her colleagues and clients. Then, early on the morning of June 11, 2017 she slipped away into Heaven. She is gloriously worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, where she's reunited with all those who went before. Her loved ones look forward to the time when they will all be reunited in Heaven for eternity. Finally, She is survived by her loving sister, Laura Mercedes Boyer of Modesto California; her son, Charles Frederick Morgan; her grandson, Samuel Frederick Morgan; her older daughter, Laura Adelaide Morgan; and her younger daughter, Margaret Morgan Bouche, all of Las Vegas. She is deeply missed, but it is only for a time. In our Father's House there are many rooms- what joy we look forward to.Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 23rd, 2017 at 2pm at the Charlestown Cemetery. Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown handling arrangements.
