Finace W. Smith

Finace W. Smith joined Jesus his Savior on 8-15-22.  As a dedicated Christian, sharing Jesus was his passion, and he did so until the end of his days. He passed away at Baptist East Hospital from stroke complications.

He was born May 15, 1952, in Jeffersonville, IN, to W. Everett and Ethel Grigsby Smith.  He was raised in Charlestown in a loving family of 16 children.  He graduated from Charlestown High School in 1970 and held a Masters Degree in Education from IUS.   Finace served in the US Army from 1970-72. He taught science at Crothersville Jr./Sr. High School, Floyd Central, and Highland Hills.

On August 10, 1973, he married Cindy Wagner.  He’s survived by his son, Andrew Smith of Nashville, TN, son Barrett (Emily) Smith of Louisville, and was “Pappy” to grandchildren, Leo and Zora.

Finace’s brothers, Kenny and Nathaniel of Charlestown also survive.

He was predeceased by his siblings: Gladys Coulter, Calvin, Eugene, Veneta Burns, Olena Brickner, Hedger, Becky Bennett, Alma Brown, Marnie, Glenn, Lottie McComb, Sandra Scott, and infant sister, Vickie.

As an ordained minister, His love for Christ called him to serve in many roles in local churches. He was called to present the gospel in song by singing bass in southern gospel groups for 45 years. His favorite quartets were his family groups.

Finace loved many things: fried chicken, old Westerns, Farmall tractors, laughing and joking, teasing his nephews and nieces, working on projects with his sons,  and spoiling his grandkids.  But his greatest love was his Jesus, and he wanted everyone to be ready to go in the Rapture. Finace was a member of Graceland Baptist Church.

Life Celebration services will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022, beginning at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Graceland Baptist Church located at 3600 Kamer Miller Rd, New Albany, IN 47150.  The family will receive friends and loved ones on Thursday, August 18, 2022, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm also at the church.  Burial will follow at the Edwardsville-Tunnel Hill Cemetery in Georgetown, IN.

The family respectfully requests that expressions of sympathy and love take the form of donations to the Gideons International P.O. Box 471, Charlestown, IN 47111.  Envelopes will be provided at the church.
