Everett Hoffman Montgomery, 82 of Guntersville, AL, and formerly of Charlestown, IN passed away at his home on Friday, January 19, 2024. He was born on May 11, 1941, in Louisville, KY, to the late Joseph Everett and Dora Elizabeth Mattingly Montgomery.
Everett was known by several names throughout his life, starting with Inky, since he was born prematurely, then in high school, he picked up the name Itchy shortened from Ichabod, and finally Monte, from waitress unable to spell Montgomery, but his favorite was POPPY. Everett worked as a photographer for the Charlestown Courier and then moved on to doing freelance work for the Chamber of Commerce brochures across the country.
In addition to his parents, Everett was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine ‘Cathy’ Montgomery; his siblings, Sarah Ferguson, May Hayes, Lila Kays, and Rachie Montgomery.
He is survived by his son, Anthony ‘Tony’ Montgomery, and wife Melissa; his daughter, Sherri Montgomery Disch, and husband Joe; granddaughters, Lucinda Montgomery and Danielle ‘Dani Jo’ Disch; great-grandsons, Brayden Donaldson and Kingston Collins; nieces, Rita Autrey and her son, Keith Autry, and Janice Dennison, and husband Richard; along with nephews, Phillip Ferguson and Ray 'Bo' Kays.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at noon, at the Charlestown Arts and Enrichment Center. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of service also at the Center. There will be a luncheon to follow.
Everett will be inurned beside his wife in Odesa, TX at a later date.
