passed away on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 at his home.
He was born on September 9, 1927 in
Clifton
,
Texas
the son of Theodore Herbert and Tora Lila Alfei Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a retired employee of the Santa Fe Railroad starting at the age of 14 in 1948 to 1981. He started as a telegraph operator and at age 18 as Depot Operator and then as Chief Dispatcher and Officer of the Company in 1966. He served in U.S. Navy as a radio operator during WWII and was a member of the
First
Baptist
Church
in
Charlestown
where he was a Deacon. He was a member of York Rite Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Gideon’s, counselor for Billy Graham Crusade, passed Olympic Torch when it passed through Southern Indiana, volunteer for Ronald McDonald House and St. Catherine Hospital, featured in the Extra Miler Article and was volunteer of the year for Southern Indiana in 2008.
He was survived by his wife Helen Smith Thomas; daughter, Terry Flowe(William David),
Charlestown
; brother, Dr. David Thomas, Sarasota, Florida; grandchildren, Karie Jewell, Richlands, NC, Kimberly Moses, Louisville and William Daniel Flowe, Sellersburg; great-grandchildren, Bryan Jewell, Johnny Cook, David Allen Jewell, William Dean Cook, Kayleigh Ann Jewell and William James Flowe; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Ronnie Albert and Richard Glenn Thomas; sisters, Doris Parks and Hazel Gough and brother, T. H. Thomas, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 P.M. Monday 14, 2011 at the
Charlestown
First
Baptist
Church
with burial at
Charlestown
Cemetery
. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the Grayson Funeral Home in
Charlestown
and after 12 Noon on Monday at the Church. Expressions of Sympathy in memory of Mr. Thomas may take the form of donations to Relay for Life or First Baptist Church Building Fund.
