Eric Douglas Fitzgerald, a man whose vibrant spirit touched many lives, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on September 13, 1985, in Louisville, Eric’s life was marked by fearless adventure, a deep love for family, and an enduring dedication to helping others.
A graduate of Charlestown High School in 2004, Eric was both a talented artist at heart and a skilled craftsman, able to fix anything and passionate about working on cars and trucks. He found great joy in driving anything with wheels, always embracing the freedom and excitement that came with it. His adventurous nature was balanced by an extraordinary warmth; he was loyal, kind, and possessed a big heart, always going out of his way to support friends and family alike. Eric had a wonderful sense of humor and a storytelling gift that made family gatherings full of laughter, where he was often the center of attention with the best stories and unforgettable memories.
Eric’s love for the outdoors was matched only by his compassion for animals of every kind. Known for bringing rescue animals into his home, he demonstrated a lifelong commitment to their care and welfare. Above all, Eric was a devoted family man who took immense pride in his greatest accomplishment: his beloved daughter, Araiya Fitzgerald. He often spoke with pride and joy about her, cherishing every moment spent with his family.
He is deeply mourned by his daughter Araiya Fitzgerald; his mother, Angela Noonan; his father, Michael Fitzgerald; and his sister, Jeanette Fountain. He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandmother, Irma McCutcheon; his nieces and nephews, Harmony Fountain, Drake Fountain, and Darren Fountain; and a circle of extended family including aunts and uncles Alisa McCutcheon, Mark McCutcheon, Malissa Richart and her husband Chris, Rikki Fitzgerald, Lisa Kendrick and her husband Bob, Teresa Aguirre and her husband Ismael, Tammy Griffin and her husband Donnie, Bobby Fitzgerald, and Janet Greenleaf and her husband David. Eric’s life was enriched by numerous relatives and cherished friends who will hold his memory close.
Eric is preceded in death by his grandfathers Leroy McCutcheon and Junior Blakely, and his grandmother Ruth Blakely, whose legacy lives on through the family he so dearly loved.
Visitation will be held at the Grayson Funeral Home, located at 893 High Street, Charlestown, Indiana 47111, on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
