Elmer "Kim" McKim, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence on October 22, 2025, surrounded by the loving presence of his family. Born on April 29, 1947, Kim was a proud graduate of Kofa High School in Yuma, Arizona, and furthered his education at Purdue University.
Kim dedicated 30 years of his working life to Colgate Palmolive, retiring in 1996. He embodied the values of commitment and perseverance, which he carried into all aspects of his life, including his cherished role as a father and husband. He married Elaine, his devoted wife of 38 years, with whom he shared countless joyful moments and created a legacy of love and support.
A wonderful storyteller, Kim's tales often began with the phrase "to make a long story short," inviting laughter and connection with everyone who had the pleasure of hearing them. He was an outdoorsman at heart; his passion for fishing and hunting was matched only by his love for spending quality time at their cabin, where he made lasting memories with his son, Travis, and daughter, Stephanie.
In addition to being a storyteller and outdoorsman, Kim was an enthusiastic supporter of IU Basketball, sharing lively game days filled with excitement with family and friends. He instilled a sense of adventure in his children, often waking them up in the mornings with the cheerful Kellog's song, setting a warm and joyful tone for the day ahead, until they made him late to work.
Kim proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, exemplifying a deep sense of duty and patriotism. His life was marked not only by his achievements but also by the pride he felt in his children’s accomplishments, emphasizing the paramount importance of family.
He is survived by his loving wife Elaine, his daughter Stephanie Fugate (Aaron), and his son Travis McKim (Coari Robertson). Kim was predeceased by his parents, Virgil "Boab" and Ruby McKim, and his siblings, Fred McKim, George McKim, Riley "Capp" McKim, Marilyn Jane Wilson, and Ellsworth "Mack" McKim.
Kim's life will be honored with a visitation on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, Indiana, followed by a funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. that same day. He will then be laid to rest at Charlestown Cemetery at 2 p.m.
