It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Doris Fern (Bowling) Burch, 92, of Charlestown, Indiana, who passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026. Born on September 29, 1933, in Owsley County, Kentucky, she was the beloved daughter of Raleigh and Ethel Bowling who preceded her in death.
Doris was the oldest of her siblings; sister Daphne Hill who passed away in 2017, and survived by her brother, William Earl Bowling. Doris was a hard-working farmer's daughter in Booneville, Kentucky until she met the love of her life, James Edward Burch, whom she married in 1954 on the condition that he would not be a farmer. They moved to the big city of Charlestown and together they welcomed two daughters Teresa Nelson (Rick) of Charlestown, Indiana, and Lisa Bishop (Roy) of Mammoth Cave, Kentucky.
Doris worked at the B&T Drug Store in 1980/81. Doris' life mission was to take care of her family, and she did that with all her heart and soul, but truly excelled in her most cherished role: being a mamaw. Doris would tell you (or anybody that was within ear shot) that she was most proud of her Grandson, James Michael Bishop (Summer) of Mammoth Cave, Kentucky. Her heart was broken when she lost James in 2012, and she mourned his passing each day. Now they are reunited in Jesus' loving arms. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children, grandchild, great-grandchildren (Bizzy, Milly & Sunny), and her extended family and friends.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation and sincerely thank Randy Hensley and the staff at Amedisys for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness shown to Doris and her family these past few months. We are forever grateful to Jen and all the staff at BeeHive Assisted Living in Georgetown, Indiana. Thank you for treating Doris with such dignity and making her feel at home.
A graveside service will be held at Charlestown Cemetery on Tuesday, June 30 at 12:15.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to BeeHive Assisted Living, Georgetown, Indiana, in memory of Doris Burch. Memories of Doris and messages of support for the family can be shared at www.GraysonFuneralHome.com.
