Listen to Obituary

Donnie Lee Wheeler, a cherished son, devoted father, and respected friend, left our world on July 10, 2025, at the age of 49 in New Washington. Born on October 24, 1975, in Jeffersonville, Donnie grew up with an unwavering commitment to hard work and an innate kindness that lit up every room he entered.

A proud graduate of Charlestown High School in 1994, Donnie further distinguished himself when he garnered Water Treatment licenses (W5), a testament to his dedication and diligence. Professionally, he was self-employed, exemplifying a versatile skillset through his work in excavating, logging, pipelines, water treatment, carpentry, and concrete. His hands shaped the very landscapes of his community, while his heart shaped the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.

Donnie’s personality was a harmonious blend of directness and kindness; he was never one to shy away from the truth, yet he communicated it with a loving touch that made others feel valued. A dedicated worker by nature, he approached every task—whether tending to his cherished vegetable garden or engaging in a spirited back road cruise—with a commitment that inspired others. His laughter echoed through the lives of family and friends, grounding them in warm memories of good times shared.

The memories brought to mind by his son, Wyatt Lee Wheeler, reflect the essence of his father—of a man who uplifted those around him, offering help regardless of the circumstances. Donnie's report card was not just marked by academic success; it was also characterized by pride in his accomplishments as a parent—especially teaching Wyatt how to operate heavy equipment skillfully, ensuring the legacy of hard work would carry on.

Surrounded by family, Donnie was proud of the life he built, forming the strong familial bond he adored. Survived by his son, Wyatt Lee; mother, Patricia Wheeler; brother, Rick Wheeler; sister, Kim Wheeler, and his niece, Ashley Wheeler, accompanied by her boyfriend Buster. Even amid the struggles of life, Donnie found solace and joy in the laughter and love shared amongst them. He nurtured his cows, and his vegetable garden served as a backdrop for treasured family gatherings, encapsulating his love for spending time with those he held dear.

His passing leaves a profound void, especially felt by those who cherished him, including the memory of his late father, Donnie Joe Wheeler. As we celebrate Donnie Lee Wheeler's life, let us carry forward the lessons of hard work, kindness, and unwavering love that he so generously imparted. His legacy remains, woven into the hearts of all who knew him—a guiding light in the pursuit of kindness and hard-won joy.
