Donnie Ray’s career was deeply rooted in the community as he spent many years working diligently on the Gilbert Family farm. Known affectionately as "Donnie on the spot," he was the reliable hand that everyone could count on to deliver fuel to them in the field, along with driving the tractor, hauling grain, and loading it into the bins. His family holds dear the memories of the special times shared with him in that nurturing environment.
Donnie Ray found a place to call home at River Crossing, where he was able to maintain his independence while receiving exceptional care that allowed him to continue enjoying his beloved activities. His caring nature and helpful demeanor left a mark on all who encountered him. Donnie Ray was also known for his patriotism, having served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Orion. He was an esteemed member and proud friend of everyone at the American Legion Post 335, where he held the title of 'Official Time Keeper.'
Donnie Ray's personality shone brightly through his everyday pleasures. He delighted in savoring a cup of coffee, enjoying a cigarette, and sharing laughter with friends at the American Legion. The connections he formed were meaningful, and he greatly appreciated the friendships he shared with the ladies at the Smoke Shop and the staff at Casey's, which held a special place in his heart. For that, the family thanks you.
His family would also like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated nurses and staff of Baptist Health Floyd, who ensured he was comfortable in his final days. They also thank the local VA offices that have consistently provided exceptional service and compassion to him throughout the years.
He leaves behind his loving siblings: Debra (Leon) Gilbert, Donna (Ben) Burkhead, Lloyd (Cherry) Bussey, Greg Hensley, Tom (Lana) Hensley, and Mitchell Hensley, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews who will cherish his memory forever.
Donnie Ray Bussey is remembered not only for his independence and hard work but also for his unwavering support of his friends and neighbors, truly embodying the spirit of community that he cherished. His legacy will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to know him.
