Diane Smith

Diane Smith, born on February 25, 1955, in Lebanon Junction, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, in Charlestown, Indiana. Her life, marked by enduring love and quiet strength, leaves a legacy cherished deeply by her family and friends.

Diane was the beloved daughter of the late Wayne Cook and Dorothy Worner. 

Family was always at the heart of Diane's world. She is survived by her devoted son, Lewis Griffin, and his wife Jennifer, whose life has been a reflection of her nurturing influence. Diane loved her cherished granddaughter, Bayleigh Houchin, and her husband, Logan, and great-granddaughter, Maizy Houchin, whose memories with her will forever be treasured. Remaining brothers and sisters—Don Hardin and his wife Nancy and Diamond Cook—mourn her passing and celebrate the bonds they shared through the years. Diane is also remembered by the father of her children, Paul Smith, a steadfast presence in her life's journey.

She is preceded in death by her dear son, Dustin Smith, beloved siblings Clifford Hardin, Sr., Bonnie Clements, and Gene Cook, as well as her parents, Wayne Cook and Dorothy Worner. 

Diane found joy in the togetherness of family, and her home was a place of comfort and kindness.  She would spend countless hours studying her Bible and watching old westerns and movies. Some of her favorites were Dirty Dancing, Little House on the Prairie, Steel Magnolias, Michael, and Rawhide. While each person's memories of Diane are unique, all will recall her gentle manner, her listening ear, and her deep, unwavering care for those around her. Being of native American heritage, Diane felt more connected by collecting decor and memorabilia from that period.  Of all that she was, she loved being Grandmai to Bayleigh and Maizy, more than anything. 

Family and friends are invited to honor Diane during visitations: the first on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and the second on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 9:00 AM until 2:00PM. Both will be held at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, Indiana, located at 893 High Street. A funeral service celebrating Diane’s life will follow on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Neil Lancaster officiating.

As we remember Diane Smith, we honor a life lived with compassion, integrity, and love. Though she is no longer with us, the lasting imprint she leaves on her family and friends will forever shape their lives. Her memory will continue to inspire and comfort all who knew her.
