David Lee Orton, a cherished member of the Charlestown community, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 19, 1956, David dedicated an impressive fifty years to his career as a maintenance man, a testament to his reliability and skill. Known for his ability to "fix most anything," he brought joy and laughter to those around him with his humorous and kind spirit.
David was a man of remarkable dependability and warmth; he was not only a brother figure to many but also a father and grandfather who enjoyed every moment spent with his family. He had a natural inclination for understanding how things work, often finding pleasure in fixing and working on various projects. This passion reflected his caring nature, as he took pride in helping others whenever he could.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Crystal Cox and her husband Matt, along with their children Matthew and Bella, and by his other daughter, Mindy Baird and her husband Tim, and their child Haley. David's son, Joshua Novotny, carries on his legacy along with his grandchildren, Timmy, Drake, Jaden, and twin boys, who filled David with joy and pride.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Calvin Orton, as well as his brothers, Danny and Calvin Orton and his good friend, John Springston.
Family and friends are invited to honor David’s memory during the visitation at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, Indiana on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
