David Wayne Knies

David Wayne Knies, 66, of Charlestown, IN, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at his home.

He was born on September 17, 1950 to Lawrence M. and Mary Elizabeth (Bell) Knies in Huntingburg, IN. David was a 1968 graduate of Charlestown High School, and was also a 1972 Purdue University graduate with distinction. He was a retired Industrial Arts Teacher at Silver Creek Junior High where he taught for 42 years.  David was the president of the West Clark Teachers Union, and a recipient of the Indiana State Teachers Association Pacesetter Award in 1998 as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.  He was a member of the St. John Paul II Parish in Sellersburg, IN.

David was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janet Knies, and a sister Doris Knies.

Survivors include his sister, Linda Knies of Charlestown, IN; step-children, Suzie Vanhoy (Andy) of Cincinnati, OH, Tom Seebold (Carrie) of Louisville, KY, and John Seebold (Corinne) of Jeffersonville, IN; grandchildren: Jarod Thompson, Hunter Seebold, Gavin Seebold, and Grant Seebold; and his close companion.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at 10:00am at St. John Paul II Parish-St. Paul Chapel in Sellersburg, IN with burial to follow in Charlestown Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Sunday from 12:00-8:00pm at the Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown and again on Monday beginning at 9:00am. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Knies may take the form of donations to the West Clark Teachers Association Scholarship Fund or the American Cancer Society.
