Mr. Snelling, 90, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, IN.
He was born on Oct. 12, 1918 in Utica, IN the son of James Ernest sr. and Vernia Slaughter Snelling, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded by a son, Dickie Snelling, 3 Sisters Mary Williams, Ruby Leep, and Loretta Harvey, and a brother Robert Snelling. Mr. Snelling was a WW II Navy Veteran, coached GRC little league baseball for 10 years, was a member of Colgate World Champion Softball team in 1949, worked at Colgate in Clarksville for 26 years, and enjoyed baseball particularly the Chicago Cubs, and cars. Mr. Snelling moved to Orland Park, IL in 1965 and retired from General Motors after 19 years. He then returned to the Jeffersonville area in 1992.
He is survived by his wife Mary Alice Copple Snelling whom he married on May 2, 1946, Jeffersonville, IN; 3 sons Bobby Snelling and his wife Linda of Jeffersonville, IN and Mickey Snelling and his wife Bella of Marysville, IN, Mark Snelling and his wife Ellen of Glen Ellyn, IL; 2 daughters Jeanie Lindsey and her husband Cliff of Jeffersonville, IN and Julie Crowl and her husband Charles of Naperville, IL; brother James "Deb" Snelling and his wife Marian of New Albany, IN., eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren
