Chester F. Lynn

d. May 26, 2007

Dr. Lynn was born to Polish immigrants on May 9, 1912 and died peacefully on Tuesday May 22, 2007 at Clark Memorial Hospital. Chester was an athletic boy who excelled in high school sports, including, soccer and baseball at Lane Technical. He graduated from Loyola University in Chicago, IL in 1936, with a degree in Dentistry. "Doc" served in the Dental Corp, during World War II, and achieved the rank of Captain. He married a pretty nurse, Lieutenant 2nd class, Mary V. Ochs, on December 3, 1943, while the two were stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis prior to their deployment overseas. By pure coincidence, Doc and his new bride were on a scheduled weekend furlough in Paris, France when "Victory in Europe" was declared and a joyful celebration ensued. After the war Dr. Lynn intially practiced dentistry in New Albany, but soon moved his office to Charlestown, where he practiced until his retirement in 1982.
Doc was an avid golfer, bowler, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed playing card games, the harmonica and solving puzzles. He loved to grow tomatoes, plant flowers and took meticulous care of his home and yard for many years. Doc and Mary traveled extensively throughout the United States, and he became a self-taught artist. He enjoyed entertaining children and he invented several children's games that will live on through family generations.
Dr. Lynn is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Mary Ochs Lynn of Charlestown; sons, Robert F. (Linda S.) Lynn of New Albany, Ronald A. (Jo Ann) Lynn of Charlestown, Larry J. (Judy) Lynn of Charlestown; daughter, Sandra S. (Ted) Mason of New Albany. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
The family requests espressions of sympathy to be made to Providence High School or the donor's charity of choice.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Sub-Acute Unit of Clark Memorial Hospital for their attentive care and compassion.
