Listen to Obituary

Carl L. King, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dear friend, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, in Salem, Indiana, surrounded by the warmth and devotion of his family. Born on June 12, 1939, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Carl's life was a testament to quiet strength, enduring love, and a generous spirit that touched all who knew him.

Carl's journey began in the heart of Jeffersonville, where his values of integrity, kindness, and dedication first took root. Throughout the years, he built a legacy not only of hard work and perseverance but also of steadfast devotion to his loved ones. His gentle manner and unwavering support formed the foundation upon which his family thrived. The story of Carl’s life is best told through the love he shared with his devoted wife of 64 years, Evelyn (Noble) King, whose partnership brought him profound joy and meaning, and through the pride he had in his family.

In addition to his beloved wife, Carl is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Murdoch (Jon) of Underwood, Indiana; two sons, Michael King (Julie Ann) of Charlestown, Indiana, and Mark King (Ginny) of Evansville, Indiana; nine grandchildren: Megan Birke, Joshua King, Lauren Taylor, Shelby Sinn, Malorie King, Lilly King-Wells (James), Alex King, Robbie Fawver, and Samantha Fawver, eleven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Larry King (Clara) of Rough River, Kentucky, and Dale King (Jan) of Harden, North Carolina. His role as a loving mentor and a caring presence created a sense of home and belonging, weaving together generations with tenderness and wisdom.

Carl is preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Brown of Winter Haven, Florida; two brothers-in-law, Cluster Noble and Travis Elmore; and one sister-in-law, Kitty Noble.

Carl’s passing leaves a space that cannot be filled, but the legacy of his kindness, his loyalty, and his dedication will continue to inspire all those fortunate enough to have known him. Though he is no longer with us, Carl's memory lives on in the stories lovingly retold by his family, the lessons he imparted, and the quiet moments of joy he brought into their lives.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 301 Gospel Road, Charlestown, IN 47111. His funeral service will be held immediately following at 1:00 p.m. at the same location. Burial will follow in Charlestown Cemetery.

King will be deeply missed, but his spirit remains alive in the memories and hearts of his family and friends.
