James 'Butch' Denney, a retired delivery truck driver, passed away on October 5, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on January 29, 1953, in Jonestown, Mississippi, Butch lived a life full of cherished moments and treasured experiences.
Throughout his life, Butch found joy in a variety of hobbies and interests. He loved spending time at the family reunion every first Sunday in May, amidst the rolling hills of Mississippi, where laughter and bonds were strengthened with family. An avid fan of gambling, Butch enjoyed betting on the horses with his buddies on Wednesdays and Fridays, along with playing slots and taking part in the lottery. He often humorously remarked that he would leave this world with a winning ticket in his wallet, forever eluding the chance to cash it in. His other pastimes included fishing, shooting, playing pool, and basketball, along with watching any old western on ME TV
Butch is remembered lovingly by his family. He leaves behind his daughter, Desiree, and her husband, Allen Holz. His siblings, George Denney and his wife, Marilyn, John Denney and his wife, Vicky, and Margaret Beard will hold onto the memories of their times spent together. He was also a proud grandfather to Jacob Delaney, Benjamin Delaney (Kaila), and Steven Delaney, Lindsey Wise, Morgan Kovacevic (Nihad), and Victoria Robertson, as well as a loving great-grandfather to Landon Jones, Carter Robertson, Aubree Robertson, and Aidan James Delaney, all of whom will continue to carry his spirit in their hearts. Additionally, Butch is survived by a host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. Sr and Mary E. Dunaway Denney, his son, James E. 'Jamie' Denney III, and siblings, Jimmy, Dene, Bill, and June.
