Billy T. Scruggs, a beloved figure in the lives of many, was born on October 11, 1937, in Gallatin, Tennessee. He departed this world on July 27, 2025, in Charlestown, Indiana, leaving behind a legacy marked by love, kindness, and an adventurous spirit.
Billy’s career was characterized by his work as a truck driver for Ryder, where he notably pulled freight for Dollar General Stores. A fond memory for him was spending time with his nephew hauling boats across the country from the East Coast to the West Coast, a testament to the joy he found in both his profession and family connections.
Known for his vibrant personality, Billy was always ready for an adventure, whether it was a vacation or a simple trip to the hardware store. His enthusiasm for life was matched by his love for family, with cherished moments spent camping at Lincoln State Park near French Lick, Indiana. Billy was a card player and liked to beat his companion players in Farkle.
Billy had a variety of interests that brought him joy. He took pride in maintaining his lawn mower, was an avid racing enthusiast, frequently visiting the Sports Drome in Clarksville, and delighted in engaging with friends and family through C.B. Radio jargon. He was a loving, giving, kindhearted soul who made significant impacts on those around him.
He is survived by a loving daughter, Linda Claridy, bonus children, Patti Watson (Steve), Pam Hoagland (James), and Paul Boggs (Cindy). He was also the cherished grandfather of Rhonda and had more extended loved ones than can be named, all of whom will remember him fondly.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Bertha Turner Scruggs, and his beloved wife of 26 years, Ella Thompson Scruggs, siblings Oak, Jim, Robert, and John A. Scruggs; and sisters Barbara Hoagland, Ruby Carter, Rosie Walker, Katherine Adams, Gracie McCormick, Lola Bell Conyer, and Georgia Perry. son, Mike Scruggs and bonus son, Phil (Vickie) Boggs.
Billy T. Scruggs will be remembered for the warmth he brought to every interaction and the love he extended to family and friends alike. His visitation will take place on August 1, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM, both held at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, Indiana.
