Betty Joan Hostetler or Joan as we knew her, (until the last couple of years, when all the doctors, hospitals, and assisted living centers/nursing homes insisted on using her legal name), used up the last of her nine lives on July 9, 2023, at Clark Rehabilitation Center, Clarksville, Indiana.
Born to John and Catherine Bottorff on August 2, 1927, in Clark County, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jean (Kent) although, for the last 6 months of her life, she would say that they had just gone out to dinner or visited with each other. She asked her sons if they had seen them recently. Glad she had this company toward the end. She raised 2 sons, Gary Lynn Hostetler, and Larry Alan Hostetler (wife, Sharon), one of whom she would say a couple of weeks prior to her passing is who aged her. Raised in New Washington, Indiana, next door to her sister and her family, and her parents on the same street. She moved to Jeffersonville in the mid-1960s where she began working full time in the Mortgage Department of various banks. (Really only one, as it kept getting bought out by bigger banks) until she retired.
Mom loved reading cookbooks with lots of pictures and trying out new recipes. One would never go hungry at her table. And leftovers would always be sent home with whoever had joined her for the meal. She was an avid collector of Jewell tea dishes, having amassed a collection that would have no rival. While she enjoyed some travel, the best of times was spent with family fishing at West Boggs Park, or up in “the country” at Larry and Sharon’s Game and Fish Reserve in Otisco, Indiana. She was able to get to know her grandkids, Carrie Lannen and Courtney Minton while on driving vacations with Gary. She loved later on hearing about her great-grandkids, Sam and Alex Minton, and Jake and Lindsey Lannen. Her love of family was without comparison.
No service will be held, as it would be sparsely attended, due to her outliving all her friends. Her final resting place will be at the family plot at Crown Hill Cemetery in New Washington, IN.
