Betty Jean (Herndon) Hedge

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Betty Jean Hedge, age 90 from Charlestown, Indiana. On July 28, 2023, Betty was surrounded by loved ones as she peacefully went to Heaven.

Betty was never at a loss for words. She loved Betty Boop, IU, old Western movies, and the endless seasons of reality game shows. Most of all she loved being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Everyone that knew her knew she was the brightest person in the room and her vivacious energy went untouched.

There is a saying, “A life well lived is a precious gift, of hope and strength and grace, from someone who has made our world a brighter better place. It’s filled with moments, sweet and sad with smiles and sometimes tears, with friendships formed and good times shared, and laughter through the years. A life well lived is a legacy, of joy and pride and pleasure, a living, lasting memory our grateful hearts will treasure.” Betty lived a beautiful full life and the legacy she has left behind is remarkable.

She is the loving sister of Junior Herndon (Sharon), Devoted mother of Joseph Hedge (Lisa) and Cathy Mangels (Don). Adored Grandma Betty of Jason Povey (Angie), Stacie Hall (Todd), Packy Page, Garrett Page (Carrie), Scott Mangels (Denise), Nathan Combs (Jessica), Brad Mangels, Nick Hedge (Rebekah), Courtney Lawrence (Jeremy), Whitney Smith (Benjamin), and Leslie Moon. Betty loved and cherished her twenty-five great-grandchildren and her six great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, William and Elizabeth Herndon, her daughter, Rhonda Moon, her brothers, Douglas and Henry Herndon, and her sister Faye Smith.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at Grayson’s Funeral Home, 893 High Street, Charlestown, Indiana, on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Thursday, August 3, 2023, from 9:00 am to the service beginning at 1:00 pm. Immediately after we will meet at Eastern Cemetery in Jeffersonville for the burial.
