Betty L. Coombs, 91 of Charlestown, IN passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at her residence. She was born on August 7, 1925 to James Albert Lewis Sr. and Laura McGuffey in Kentucky.
Betty loved her family, friends, and all that she met along the way. She cherished the stories of her life. How she met Robert “Bob” Coombs, when she bought the home she loved, and how each day was a beautiful day. Betty loved to garden, sew, cook, read, knit, and china paint. Betty was a homemaker and member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Charlestown, Ladies Union Club, Charlestown Garden Club and the Indiana China Painters Guild.
Survivors include her daughters, Joy C. Thornberry (Don) of Louisville, KY, Jane C. Hood (Jeff) of Clarksville, IN; son, Douglas R. Coombs (Mary) of Charlestown, IN; brothers, Ray Lewis (Lynn) of Clarksville, IN, Russel Lewis (Mary Lou) of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Angela Coleman (Tim) and Derek Coombs (Lennea) of Charlestown, IN, R. Craig Hood and Laura Hood of Clarksville, IN; great grandchildren, Kennedy and Carter Coleman and Kate and Caroline Coombs.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert D. Coombs Sr.; son, Robert D. Coombs Jr.; sister, Lorraine Bowen and brothers, Jim and Donald Lewis
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, IN with burial to follow in Charlestown Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3pm to 8pm and on Saturday after 9am at the funeral home.
