Benton “Blackie” Blackburn, age 94, of Charlestown, IN and formerly of South Bend, IN passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, IN.
He was born March 12, 1918 in Huddy, KY the son of Sidney and Margaret Rowe Blackburn. Mr. Blackburn retired from the U. S. Marine Corp in 1961 after serving in W. W. II during which he was a Pearl Harbor Survivor and the Korean War. He retired from Civil Service in 1977 at Camp Pendleton in California. He was a member of Southside Christian Church in South Bend, the Fleet Reserves Association and enjoyed square dancing, yard work and his loving grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Varney Blackburn; daughter, Denise Tebo, Charlestown, IN; son, Scott Blackburn, Boulevard, CA; grandchildren, Eric, Jason, Tami and Todd; great-grandchildren, Shaun, Ruthann, Trevor, Noelah, Grace and Kenna.
Military Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, April 20, 2012 at Indiana Veterans Cemetery in Madison, IN. Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown is in charge of arrangements.
