Alvin Lincoln Mattox, 88, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Floyd Memorial Hospital.
He was born on September 17, 1922 to George and Mary Faye Chenoweth Mattox in English, IN. He was an Army Veteran of WWII in which he received a purple heart and a bronze star. He was a retired mechanic and minister of 30 years of the United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Indiana Conference of United Methodist Church and Disabled American Veterans. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis Lippeatt Mattox; brother, Bruce Mattox; sister, Vivian Jackson.
Survivors include his sons, Richard Mattox (Donna) of Charlestown, IN, Michael Mattox (Melanie) of Henryville, IN, and George Mattox, Sr. (Brenda) of New Albany, IN; daughters, Alice Sims (Gregg) of Winslow, IN, and Sally Lasley (Norman) of Mt. Pleasant, IN; 12 Grandchildren, 22 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11am at the United Methodist Church in Charlestown, with interment in the Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Saturday after 10am at the church.
