Alberta "Birdie" (Miller) Belcher

Alberta “Birdie” Belcher, 86 of Charlestown, IN passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019 at Sellersburg Health Care Center.

Birdie was born on January 8, 1933 in Butler County, KY the daughter of Melvin and Nellie Bransford Miller. She was retired from ICI Americas and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church both in Charlestown. Birdie was gifted with many abilities including sewing, crocheting, painting, singing, playing the piano, cooking, yard work and taking care of her garden. She also was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir.

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Meredith (Jerry) and Deborah Akemon both of Charlestown; son Earl Belcher (Debbie) of Charlestown; sister, Pat Embry of Leitchfield, KY; grandchildren, Jamie Akemon (Ginger), Decimber Smith, Nicole Twigg (Travis), Tonya Walston (Jeremiah) and Erin Hearn (Dereck); great-grandchildren, Helena, Calah, Dara, Jase, Parker, Matthew, Caleb, Dereck and Haley; step-grandchildren, Shelbie, Jade, Aaron Groover. Birdie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Juanita and Nellie; brothers, William, Wilbur, Charles and Ray.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown with burial in Charlestown Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday from 1:00 to 8:00 P.M. and after 10:00 A.M. Saturday. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Birdie may take the form of donations to St. Jude’s Research Hospital or Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
