William M. (Bill) Broughton 90, of Charlestown, IN passed peacefully from this life, at home on Thursday August 26, 2021.
Bill was born on March 7, 1931, in Knox County, KY to Obie D and Etta Smith Broughton. He retired after 37 years from the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant. Having also supplemented the family income by hauling gravel and dirt, installing septic systems, and excavating. He spent his retirement doing what he enjoyed. He would love to sell you some tires, or a toolbox, or truck parts. He loved his wife, his family, and his Lord. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.
He was so proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In addition to peddling, Bill enjoyed chewing tobacco, smoking a cigar on the back deck, and watching his programs-“Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy”. He liked UK, did some fishing in his time, watched some golf, if “Lefty” was playing, and enjoyed Reds Baseball.
Bill is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marie Gregory Broughton; sons, Roger (Joyce), David, Bill (Tonya); daughters, Annette Hobson (Ted), Noel Broughton-Miller (Bill), Melanie Broughton. He loved his grandsons, Will and Carter Broughton, Rob Jenkins (Adrienne), Jake Jenkins (Lisa) Josh Jenkins (Lacie). Kyle and Mason Broughton. Papaw was crazy about his granddaughters, Chrissie Homer (Paul), Erin James (Derrick), Billie Vissing (Keith) and Amanda Moore. Bill’s eyes lit up when he watched his great-grandchildren, Emma, Nathaniel, Anndi Jo, Elijah, Carson, Emmett, Brayden, Rylee, Isla, Kyndall, Blakley, Christine, and Katherine. In addition, Bill had many nieces and nephews and friends/loved ones of his family for whom he cared.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday August 30, 2021, at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown with burial in Old Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday and after 10:00 a.m. on Monday.
