Clay Hall, 80, of Charlestown, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 18, 2012
at his home.
He was born on May 17, 1932 on the family farm in Greensburg, KY to John L. and Ruth Calhoun Hall. He married his sweetheart Sarah Rose Cooper Hall on November 25, 1950. He and his brothers Jim and Ray were co-owners of Hall Brothers Service Center. He retired in 1991 from Greater Clark County Schools where he served as Administrator of Auxiliary Services. Clay was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Past Master of Blazing Star Masonic Lodge, Past Worthy Patron of Blazing Bright Order of the Eastern Star.
He served as Mayor of Charlestown from 1976-1980 and 1984 to 1988. He was Charlestown City Court Judge from 1980-1984. Clay served as a former member and president of the Charlestown Metropolitan School Board prior to its merger with Greater Clark County Schools. He was also a life member of Charlestown Senior Citizens, Inc., and a founding member of the Charlestown Township Democrat Club. He was also a member of the Old Salem United Methodist Church. Clay was an avid fisher and hunter (as the fish in the St. John’s River-they feared the Hall Boys.) He and Sarah Rose were also great fans of the Cincinnati Reds. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
Clay was happy to serve his community and was willing to serve as needed, requested, and elected. He was a proud member of the Charlestown community and worked hard for its continued success. He was especially proud that his children also work to serve Charlestown. He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Sarah Rose; sisters, Charlotte, Ruby, and Marie; brothers, Jim, his twin brother Ray, and Earl ‘Mouse”.
Survivors include his children, Mike Hall (Debbie) former Mayor of Charlestown; Ruth Ann Rawlings, current Charlestown City Councilwoman, and Tony Hall (Pam), retired teacher, coach, and Athletic Director for Charlestown High School; grandchildren, Sarah Beth Adel, Brian Hall, , Matt Burchett (Connie), Kristin Pickerell (Jeremy), Corey Hall (Sara), Kim Burchett, Kaelin Thacker (Aaron), Jonathan Hall, Lauren Stutesman (Josh), Bradley Hall, and Haylee Hall; 11 Great-Grandchildren with one more on the way, and many loved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11am at the Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, with burial to follow in Charlestown Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 1pm to 9pm, and after 9am on Saturday. Masonic services will be held on Friday evening at 8pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sarah Rose Hall 2012 Memorial Fundraiser to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the New Washington State Bank.
