Carl W. Hopper, 99 of Lexington, IN passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at his home.
Mr. Hopper was born on January 7, 1919 in Seymour, IN the son of William and Maudie Conard Hopper. He retired after over 30 years of service at the Charlestown Army Ammunition Plant. Carl was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II and after the war served a short time with the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of the American Legion Post #9 and Veterans of Foreign Wars both in Madison, IN and was an avid woodworker making beautiful furniture and things for his family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Allman of Lexington; son John Hopper and his wife Jessie of Lexington; grandchildren, Desiree, Jody, Jill, Shannon and James; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; special family friend Vicky Layton; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Hopper was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn Turner Hopper in 1998; sister, Aylene Kent; brothers, Glen and Robert Hopper.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the New Hope Baptist Church in Chelsea, IN with Military Honors accorded by the Madison American Legion Post #9. Visitation will begin at 12 Noon on Saturday until the time of service. Mr. Hopper’s ashes will be buried at New Bethel Cemetery at a later date. Grayson Funeral Home in New Washington is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Hopper may take the form of donations to New Bethel Cemetery Association.
